Cast-on in the middle of a round
Casting on in the middle of a round adds new stitches while circular work continues.
What it is
Cast-on in the middle of a round creates new stitches after the round has already started. The work stays circular, but the stitch count changes before the round is complete.
How Ruke patterns use it
Ruke patterns can use this when a sleeve, body, bag or neckline needs extra stitches during circular construction. It is often connected to underarm stitches, openings or a new section that begins inside the round.
Pattern notation examples
- Round 1 K to marker, cast on 4 sts, k to end of round.
- Round 2 K across the cast-on sts and continue to end of round.
When to use it
Use it when the project is already joined in the round and the pattern asks for new stitches before the round ends.
What to check
Check that the work is not twisted, the beginning-of-round marker remains clear, and the new stitch count matches the pattern before continuing.
Common mistakes
Losing the beginning of round, placing the cast-on stitches on the wrong side of a marker, or tightening the new stitches too much.
