technique
2x2 Rib
2x2 Rib alternates two knit stitches and two purl stitches for a clear elastic rib.
What it is
2x2 Rib is slightly broader than 1x1 Rib and is often used on sweater hems, cuffs, hat brims and other edges that need structure and stretch.
How Ruke patterns use it
2x2 Rib is a broader elastic edge structure and helps explain Ruke accessories or garment edges that use visible rib columns. It is also useful when the pattern asks the knitter to maintain a repeat around a circular edge.
Examples
Ruke Forest Neckwarmer includes rib stitch pattern logic in its construction.
Use this page when a pattern edge is less fine than 1x1 rib and the stitch repeat must stay aligned after joining in the round.
When to use it
Use it for wider elastic hems, cuffs, hat brims and edges where a stronger visible rib is part of the design.
What to check
Check that the stitch count is divisible by the rib repeat and that the rib aligns cleanly after joining in the round.
