Double knit front band
A double knit front band creates a structured cardigan edge with two knitted layers.
What it is
A double knit front band is a band worked with two layers or a double-knit structure. It gives the front edge more body and can hide or control the inside of the band.
How Ruke patterns use it
Ruke cardigan patterns may use this kind of band when the front opening needs a refined, stable finish. It connects picking up stitches, edge tension and garment structure.
Pattern notation examples
- Row 1 (RS) Sl1, begin working front band in double knit sts, p last st.
- Row 2 (WS) Sl1, continue double knit band as established, p last st.
When to use it
Use it when the pattern asks to begin a front band in double knit stitches or links a video for the front band setup.
What to check
Check picked-up stitch count, edge tension, right-side and wrong-side alignment, and whether the band should fold or sit flat.
Common mistakes
Picking up too many or too few stitches, mixing the two layers, or letting the band pull the cardigan front out of shape.
