Picking up stitches
Picking up stitches creates new live stitches from an existing edge.
What it is
Picking up stitches is used for neckbands, button bands, sleeves, collars and other construction details where one knitted section grows from another.
How Ruke patterns use it
Ruke cardigans and neckline constructions often require new stitches to be worked from existing edges. Picking up stitches is the bridge between a finished knitted edge and a new band, collar, front band or sleeve detail.
Examples
Front band appears repeatedly in cardigan patterns such as Ruke Classic Cardigan, Ruke Butterfly Cardigan, Ruke Iris Cardigan and Ruke Moon Cardigan.
Neck and finishing sections are recurring in the corpus, so edge pickup tension directly affects the final garment finish.
When to use it
Use it for neckbands, button bands, collars, sleeves, pockets and any section worked from an existing edge.
What to check
Check pickup ratio, edge spacing and whether the picked-up section flares, pulls in or leaves visible gaps.
