Increase Evenly

What it is

Increase evenly means distribute a stated number of new stitches across a row or round at balanced intervals.

How Ruke patterns use it

Ruke construction uses even distribution when one section must reach a new stitch count without creating a strong shaping line. The instruction is controlled by the old count, the new stitches and any edge stitches excluded from the calculation.

When to use it

Use it when the pattern gives a number of increases but does not name fixed marker positions.

What to check

Check the usable stitch count, calculate intervals before knitting and confirm the final total.

Common mistakes

Dividing by the wrong count, placing every increase at exactly the same interval despite a remainder, or increasing into edge stitches.
