technique
M1R
M1R is a right-leaning make-one increase worked from the strand between stitches.
What it is
M1R adds one stitch by lifting and twisting the strand between stitches so the new stitch closes neatly and leans to the right.
How Ruke patterns use it
Ruke patterns use M1R as a direction cue, often beside markers and paired with M1L. The goal is not only to add a stitch, but to keep shaping visually balanced.
Pattern notation examples
- It commonly appears around raglan lines and other mirrored shaping points.
- When paired with M1L, each increase should sit on the correct side of the marker.
When to use it
Use it where the pattern specifically asks for a right-leaning increase.
What to check
Check lift direction, stitch twist, marker placement and whether the increase leaves a visible hole.
Common mistakes
Working M1R as M1L, forgetting to twist the strand, or placing the increase on the wrong side of a marker.
