Basic Bind-off
Basic Bind-off secures live stitches to finish an edge.
What it is
Basic Bind-off is the standard way to close stitches. It is simple and useful, but it must be worked loosely enough for the edge to behave well.
How Ruke patterns use it
Ruke Knowledge uses Basic Bind-off as the baseline before a knitter chooses a more elastic or Ruke-specific cast-off.
Pattern notation examples
- Use it when a standard secure edge is enough.
- Compare it with Ruke Cast-Off when the edge needs more stretch or a cleaner garment finish.
When to use it
Use it for straightforward edges where stretch is not the main requirement.
What to check
Check that the bind-off is not too tight, especially on cuffs, necklines, hems and edges that must move.
Common mistakes
Binding off with tighter tension than the main fabric or choosing it for an edge that needs more elasticity.
