technique
Knit stitch
The knit stitch is the first foundation stitch in knitting and creates the smooth V-shaped side of stockinette fabric.
What it is
The knit stitch is worked with the yarn at the back of the work. It is used in garter stitch, stockinette stitch, ribbing and nearly every knitted construction.
How Ruke patterns use it
Knit stitch is the core action behind most Ruke instructions. In parsed patterns it appears as K, knit rounds, stockinette fabric, ribbing, decreases and increase setup around markers.
Examples
Yoga Summer Sweater uses knit rounds in the yoke while M1R and M1L shape the raglan lines.
Green-Day Sweater combines knit stitches with purl stitches and twisted rib around neckline, hem and cuffs.
When to use it
Use it whenever the pattern asks to knit, work garter stitch flat, create stockinette in the round or build basic stitch patterns.
What to check
Check that the working yarn stays at the back and that stitches are not twisted or accidentally increased at the edges.
