technique
M1L
Make one left increase used for left-leaning shaping.
What it is
M1L is worked into the strand between stitches and twists the new stitch so it leans to the left. It is often paired with M1R for symmetrical increases.
How Ruke patterns use it
Ruke patterns use M1L as the left-leaning partner to M1R. In practice it is not just an increase, but a direction cue that keeps raglan or side shaping visually balanced.
Examples
Yoga Summer Sweater explicitly uses M1L and M1R in the raglan yoke setup.
Capsule Scarf No. 1 and other accessory data include M1L in abbreviation context, showing that make-one increases are not limited to sweaters.
When to use it
Use it where the pattern needs a left-leaning increase, usually paired with M1R for balanced shaping.
What to check
Check that the strand is lifted from front to back and worked through the back loop to close the increase.
