What it is

M1L adds one stitch by lifting the strand between stitches and twisting it in the opposite direction from M1R.

How Ruke patterns use it

Ruke patterns use M1L as the left-leaning partner to M1R. It helps mirrored shaping look intentional rather than random.

Pattern notation examples

  • It often appears on the opposite side of a raglan marker from M1R.
  • The stitch count increases the same way, but the visual direction is different.

When to use it

Use it where the pattern needs a left-leaning increase.

What to check

Check lift direction, back-loop work, marker placement and whether the M1L mirrors the M1R side.

Common mistakes

Swapping M1L with M1R, working the strand without closing the hole, or tightening the new stitch too much.
