What it is

Gauge connects yarn, needle size, tension and finished measurements. If gauge changes, the final garment size changes even when the pattern is followed correctly.

How Ruke patterns use it

Gauge is one of the most consistent fields in Ruke pattern data. Every parsed pattern contains a Gauge section, and many specify that gauge is measured after washing. This makes gauge a central Ruke Knowledge concept, not an optional detail.

Examples

Green-Day Sweater gauge is 17.5 stitches x 25 rows over 10 cm in Stockinette stitch after washing.
Yoga Summer Sweater gauge is 23 stitches x 36 rows over 10 cm in the sweater stitch pattern after washing.

When to use it

Use it before choosing a size or starting a garment, especially when fit and finished measurements matter.

What to check

Check stitch gauge, row gauge, washed measurements and whether changing needle size is needed.
